Che K. was driving on University in a Black Dodge, which had tinted windows. An officer on patrol of the neighborhood looked up who the Dodge was registered to, resulting in a “Michael” with an invalid driver’s license. The officer could not determine if the so called “Michael” was driving the vehicle, and instead turned on his emergency sirens. Che pulled over and spoke to the officer, who smelled cannabis coming from the vehicle, and allowed the officer to search his car, resulting in the discovery of 25 grams of cannabis and drug paraphernalia. The officer confiscated the drugs and arrested Che for the possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia. Because we had previously represented Che’s step father, Che trusted and called us immediately after his arrest.

Our strategy was to get Che into Drug Court, where he could receive the proper treatment for his using and the charges could be dismissed. Throughout his year in Drug Court, Che had some minor setbacks and relapses. We took care of everything and made it a much easier and stress-free time for him.
