Jason Kaufman is Special Counsel to Rossen Law Firm. He is a Fort Lauderdale criminal defense attorney with a proven record of trial advocacy and a deep commitment to protecting people when the system is stacked against them.
Over the course of his career, Jason has tried more than 90 cases and has built a reputation as a skilled, strategic, and fearless advocate. After seeing individuals struggle through the criminal justice system without the kind of representation they deserved, Jason built his practice around being a true advocate for people accused of crimes.
Jason defends clients in state courts throughout South Florida and in federal court in the Southern District of Florida. He serves as a Criminal Justice Act (CJA) panel attorney, representing clients in serious federal criminal matters, and has also served as an expert witness in criminal cases.
He is one of the few attorneys appointed by the State of Florida to represent criminal defendants on death row in clemency hearings. Beyond his courtroom work, Jason is also a sought-after jury consultant, retained on both state and federal cases and regularly traveling throughout Florida to teach other lawyers how to select juries effectively.
As Special Counsel to Rossen Law Firm, Jason brings trial, federal criminal defense, and death-penalty clemency experience, as well as jury-selection strategy, to strengthen the firm’s defense of clients facing serious criminal charges.
Who I Am
I am a criminal defense trial lawyer, jury consultant, and advocate for people facing the power of the criminal justice system.
My work has always centered on protecting clients when the stakes are high and the pressure is real. Whether I am standing before a jury, defending a client in federal court, consulting on jury selection, or representing someone in a death row clemency proceeding, my focus is the same: preparation, strategy, and protecting the client’s rights.
I believe every person accused of a crime deserves a lawyer who understands the system, challenges the government, and knows how to tell the client’s story in a way that matters.
Why I Do This Work
I do this work because criminal defense is often the last line of protection between a person and the full weight of the government.
Over the years, I have watched people struggle through the criminal justice system without understanding what was happening to them or how to protect themselves. That experience shaped the kind of lawyer I became. I wanted to be the advocate who steps in, takes control, and makes sure the client is not alone.
Trial work, federal defense, clemency advocacy, and jury consulting all require the same core belief: the client’s story matters. The facts matter. The Constitution matters. And the lawyer’s job is to make sure all of that is heard.
